About us

As a member of KMS Facilities Group, KMS Care has extremely high standards in everything we do. And this starts with the people we employ. Quite simply, we handpick experts who really care about what we do. Without the dedication of our engineers and technicians we couldn’t do what we do. They’re the reason our specialist adaptations, maintenance and repairs service is so respected by health workers, local authorities, social landlords and private customers. Today we employ teams of up to 30 experts who specialise in tailoring homes for people with special needs. So you can be confident in a personal, professional service from initial assessment right through to completion.

Working with families

In our experience, an elderly person or a disabled child or adult can often find it difficult to talk about making changes to their home. They may find it embarrassing or be too proud to ask for help. This is something we understand. That’s why we take the time to meet their family and build a relationship based on trust, discretion and understanding. By talking sensitively to wives, husbands, sisters, brothers and children, we can build a clear picture of what’s needed and deliver a stress-free adaptation.

A personal service

Whatever you need we have the expertise and contacts to manage, design, source and install a completely bespoke adaptation. So if you need specialist lever handle taps, low level sinks, ramps or even preparation work for a new stairlift, we’ll make it happen.

Good to know!

A dedicated project manager will oversee your work from start to finish.

Working with professionals

Finding the right adaptation, maintenance or repair solution relies on having the right information to hand. So as well as speaking to families, the KMS Care team works in close partnership with professionals such as occupational therapists, social landlords, local authorities and specialist suppliers to get a detailed picture of what’s needed.

Occupational therapists

When an elderly or disabled person is sent home from hospital, an occupational therapist will make an assessment. This report will contain initial recommendations on any adaptations they think the patient could benefit from. By talking to the occupational therapist we can combine their medical expertise with our adaptations expertise to come up with the most informed solution.

Social landlords

If a social landlord is paying for work their tenant needs, we work together to ensure we meet both the specific needs of the individual and the budgetary needs of the person paying the bill.

Local authorities

Many people can obtain grants from their local authorities to help pay for adaptations to their homes. Our budgetary expertise and practical experience is invaluable in helping get applications approved.

Specialist suppliers

We want only the best products for our customers. That’s why we work closely with AKW, a leading supplier of bathroom, kitchen and mobility equipment to the elderly and disabled. This partnership gives us access to a wide range of products, specialist training plus professional AKW surveyors.

Our caring approach

Transforming the lives of disabled children and adults and elderly people in their homes needs a very special approach. And that’s where the KMS Care experts come in. As well as having years of practical and problem solving experience, our engineers and technicians also possess exceptional personal skills that are essential when working with individuals and their families. It means we can offer a complete service from the initial meeting to assessment to project management to carrying out the work.

Corporate responsibilities

That’s why we actively encourage our employees and suppliers to meet and discuss ways they can exceed their individual social, environmental and ethical responsibilities. We see all our corporate responsibilities as a real opportunity to make a positive impact on our communities, environments and own company workplace.

Health & Safety

When it comes to the health, safety and welfare of our employees and residents, we work as a team. On a business level our risk management systems are in place to identify, measure and control any injury, ill health and loss in the workplace. On a personal level, we ensure that staff are given the information, training and supervision they need to get involved and take responsibility. We’re always looking for opportunities to raise these standards even further and our recent employee survey of our health and safety culture is helping us do just that.

Training and Development

To help every member of staff on our team be the best they can be, we have an impressive range of training resources to bring out their full potential. By working with each employee, we first identify what particular skills they are looking to grow – this could be anything from leadership and team building to presentation and negotiation. Our training programmes then offer the use of computer based interactive learning centres, video based learning and reference materials to help them achieve their goals. We also pioneer local jobs for local people by employing graduates from local communities, offer modern apprenticeships, stewardship schemes and lone parent programmes.

Equality and diversity

We live in a wonderfully diverse society and the inclusive culture of KMS positively reflects this. We don’t just recognise the diversity of our employees, residents and stakeholders, we go out of our way to ensure the equal opportunities policy embraces all our partners. All our employees have attended Equality & Diversity courses This means that every individual is treated fairly and equally no matter what their race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability and age.

Supply Chain

We recognise the importance of working together with our supply chain partners. As well as allowing us to identify and move towards a common goal, it allows us to benefit from better management relationships and create more innovative solutions. It also helps us identify key performance measures, monitor project design and recognise the best value solutions for our clients.

And the key to it’s success?

Developing a culture of openness where everyone is involved in the working process and the rewards it brings.

Environmentally Friendly

We regularly monitor our environmental policy and have started measuring our performance in four key areas: waste, energy management, environmental awareness training and vehicle emissions. Our partnership with the waste disposal contractor ‘Transwaste UK’ also allows us to continually increase the amount of waste that is recycles and reused. We reuse over 85% of the materials we remove.
